As the Giro hit the first of three tough mountain stages, Paolo Bettini (RSR) just missed out in fifth place today. Back in 83rd place, Erik Zabel finished almost thirty minutes down for Steve. Lisa's Robbie McEwan was one of four riders not to take the start this morning.
