Steve had several riders in the break that stayed away to the end of today's stage but they faded before the finish with Vincenzo Nibali first home in thirteenth place. Julian Alaphilippe (RSR) led home the group of overall favourites in nineteenth.

Nibali moved himself up to sixth overall as Alaphilippe drops to seventh and Bauke Mollema (SNO) to sixteenth.

Mark Cavendish (SNO) went in the break early on to score points at the intermediate sprint and extend his lead at the top of the points classification as Alaphilippe dropped to sixth and Peter Sagan (SNO) remains seventh.

Alaphilippe also lost ground in the mountains competition, dropping to seventh.
