Alberto Contador (RSR) comfortably held onto the pink jersey but Richie Porte, also for Lisa, lost time due to a mechanical in the finale and dropped to fourth overall at the finish. A subsequent two-minute penalty pushed Porte down to twelfth overall.
Although denied the chance to sprint for the win as a four-man break stayed away to the finish, André Greipel (SNO) held onto second place in the points jersey.
