Final Season Results

As we reached the end of the strangest season in the twenty-plus years we've been running our fantasy teams, in Madrid in November at the end of an eighteen-stage Vuelta, Steve's Nightowlers wound up comfortably ahead of Lisa's Ready Steady Riders. Due to the unique circumstances and arrangements of this year's season, it won't be included in our page of stats.

Vuelta a España, overall

Rui Costa (RSR) finished 44th overall with Fred Wright 91st for Steve.


Sam Bennett (SNO) was 21st in the points competition where Costa finished 32nd.

In the mountains classification, Costa was ninth but neither of Steve's riders scored a single point.

The final-day excitement at the top of the GC did not involve our riders, so Vincenzo Nibali (SNO) ended the race in seventh place overall, Rafał Majka (RSR) was twelfth and James Knox, also for Lisa, fourteenth.


Arnaud Démare (SNO) wins the maglia ciclamino as the winner of the points competition with Peter Sagan, also for Steve, second. For Lisa, Majka finished 46th.

In the mountains classification, as previously noted, Sagan ends up 31st and Majka 36th.

The final road stage of this year's race saw James Knox (RSR) finish tenth with Vincenzo Nibali eleventh for Steve.


Going into the concluding time trial, Nibali is seventh overall, Rafał Makja (RSR) is twelfth and Knox is fourteenth.

Arnaud Démare and Peter Sagan (both SNO) look set to finish first and second on points but Majka is now 46th.

In the mountains competition, Sagan ends up 31st and Majka 36th.

One last successful breakaway left Vincenzo Nibali (SNO) in 22nd place at the finish with James Knox 38th for Lisa.

Arnaud Démare and Peter Sagan (both RSR) lead the points competition where Majka is now 45th.

No mountains points were awarded to day, so Sagan is still 25th in that classification with Majka 30th.

Vincenzo Nibali (SNO) came home in eighth place today with Rafał Majka (RSR) eleventh as the overall contenders came to the forefront with the end of the race in sight.


Nibali slips a place to eighth overall and Majka drops four places to tenth. James Knox (RSR) also drops one place to fifteenth overall.

Majka is now down to 40th in the points competition headed by Arnaud Démare and Peter Sagan (both SNO).

Sagan is now 25th in the mountains competition with Majka 30th.

Rafał Majka (RSR) finished thirteenth today with Vincenzo Nibali eighteenth for Steve.


Overall, Majka retains sixth place and Nibali remains seventh with James Knox (RSR) still fourteenth.

Arnaud Démare and Peter Sagan (both SNO) seem impregnable at the top of the points table but Majka slips further back to 39th.

Sagan is now down to 23rd in the mountains competition and Majka down to 26th.

Vincenzo Nibali (SNO) finished 30th today as the main bunch rolled in thirteen minutes after the breakaway riders. For Lisa, Rafał Majka finished 36th.


Fernando Gaviria (RSR) did not take the start today after yesterday's second rest day.

The successful breakaway meant there was no change at the top of the general classification so Majka is still sixth overall with Nibali seventeenth and James Knox (RSR) fourteenth.

Likewise, Arnaud Démare and Peter Sagan (both SNO) still head up the points table where Make is now down to 38th.

In the mountains competition, Sagan is now nineteenth with Majka 24th.

After a six-man breakaway contested the finish, Fernando Gaviria (RSR) took second place in the main-bunch sprint and so was eighth on the stage. Vincenzo Nibali was Steve's best-placed finisher back in 35th.

Sam Bennett (SNO) won today as the race resumed after the first rest day. Caleb Ewan (RSR) finished second with Peter Sagan third for Steve.


The sprint finish had almost no impact on the overall classification, so Adam Yates (SNO) is still eighth with Bauke Mollema, also for Steve, thirteenth. Julian Alaphilippe is Lisa's highest placed rider overall in 41st place.

Bennett and Sagan swap places at the top of the points competition and Caleb Ewan (RSR) is now sixth on points with Alaphilippe eighth.

Adam Yates (SNO)'s challenge for the overall lead collapsed today and he finished ninth, well off the pace. Indeed Bauke Molema, also for Steve, finished ahead of him in sixth place. Lisa's three riders did even worse, all finishing today in the goupetto.

Peter Sagan & Sam Bennett (both SNO) swap places at the top of the points classification, putting Sagan back into his familiar Green Jersey. Alaphilippe is still seventh on points and Caleb Ewan (RSR) is eighth.

Greg van Avermaet (RSR) finished third today. Julian Alaphilippe, fifth, was Lisa's highest finisher.


Adam Yates (SNO) retains the overall lead and Bauke Mollema, also for Steve, stays in eleventh place. Alaphilippe is still sixteenth overall.

Sam Bennett (SNO) is again in Green tonight ahead of Peter Sagan, also for Steve, with Caleb Ewan (RSR) still fourth on points and Alaphilippe up to seventh.

After today's stage, van Avermaet is now eighth in the mountains classification.

Sam Bennett (SNO) claimed third place in today's slightly uphill sprint finish with Peter Sagan, also for Steve, fourth. Caleb Ewan (RSR) finished eighth.


Adam Yates (SNO) was handed the overall lead due to a time penalty inflicted on Julian Alaphilippe (RSR) for a minor infringement which drops him to sixteenth overall. Bauke Mollema (SNO) remains eleventh on GC.

Bennett's heading Sagan at the intermediate sprint and again at the finish puts him in the green jersey as Sagan drops to second on points. Ewan moves up to fourth in that competition.

Julian Alaphilippe (RSR) won today's hilly stage and takes over the yellow jersey of overall leader. Adam Yates (SNO) finished third and is now second overall while Greg van Avermaet, for Lisa, was fourth today  and jumps up the overall standings to twelfth.


Peter Sagan (SNO) moves to to second on points today and Sam Bennet, also for Steve, remains fourth. Alaphilippe enters the points standings in fifth place with Yeats eighth.

Philippe Gilbert (SNO) was unable to take the start today due to an injured knee-cap resulting from a crash yesterday.

Our 2020 Teams

For the new season, Lisa makes two changes to her Ready Steady Riders. As Marcel Kittel has retired and Dan Martin moved on, she brings in young Brit. James Knox and Carl Frederick Hagen.

Steve makes three changes to the line-up of his Nightowlers team: Alex Dowsett, Rick Zabel and André Greipel have all moved on and in come Sam Bennett, Arnaud Démare and young Brit. Fred Wright.
