On a nailed-on sprint stage, the sprinters teams somehow failed catch the four-man breakaway by just fourteen seconds so the big names sprinted for fifth place. Arnaud Démare (SNO) took sixth on the stage, Mark Cavendish, also for Steve, eighth, and Fernando Gaviria (RSR) ninth.
Due to a positive Covid-19 test, the rider in fourth place overall could not start today, so Vincenzo Nibali (SNO) moves up one place to fourth on GC and Guillaume Martin (RSR) similarly improvs by a place to fifteenth overall.
After the bungled sprint, the top of the points table is unchanged with Démare leading from Cavendish and Gaviria.
Bauke Mollema (SNO) stays eleventh on the mountains classification with Rui Costa now 38th for Lisa.
